SPECIAL UNION NEWS (9/24/2010)
Nominations Sought for Upcoming Assembly Delegate Election
The Union Constitution
(under article III) describes the delegate positions that, along with
our officers, comprise our Union Assembly. This fall, we will hold
elections for these delegate positions.
Any member in good standing (click here to find out how to join)
can seek a delegate position. If at least two candidates file for one
of the positions, we will hold an election via electronic ballot. If
three or more candidates file for one position, instant run-off voting
will be used to determine the winner. The winners will take office in
November and will serve two-year terms.
The election schedule is as follows:
- September 29 - October 8: Self-nominations accepted
- October 9 - 20: Campaign period
- October 21 - 27: Voting
- October 29: Results announced
Prospective
candidates should submit, for the position of their choice, a
nominating statement of no more than 500 words to Kathy White of the
Elections Committee
during the self-nomination period. At the end of each day during the
nomination period, our webmaster will update the list of candidates who
have filed on GAOanalysts.org. The Elections Committee will not accept
nominations from persons other than a candidate himself or herself. Any
self-nominations or nominating statements submitted outside the
nomination window will not be accepted. Candidates and their supporters
should also familiarize themselves with the Union campaign rules.
By
the start of the voting period, the Elections Committee will distribute
to all members in good standing a Voters' Guide containing all
self-nominations and nominating statements that comply with the above
membership, filing period and length requirements.
Self-Nomination Period Closed for Union President, Treasurer and Secretary; One Person Nominated for Each Office
On September 17, nominations closed for the following Union offices:
- President (1 self-nomination: Ron La Due Lake, ARM)
- Treasurer (1 self-nomination: Heather Rasmussen, FMA)
- Secretary (1 self-nomination: Stephen Ulrich, Chicago/HC)
According to guidance from the Department of Labor and the Union Constitution,
because only one candidate nominated themselves for each seat, an
election need not be held. As a result, the nominees listed above
will begin two-year terms.
