Nominations Sought for Upcoming Election of Two Union Officers

The Union Constitution establishes staggered terms for Union officers. This fall, we will hold elections for two Union officer positions.
  • Vice President for Grievance and Dispute Resolution
  • Vice President for Field Operations
Any member in good standing can seek and vote for the office of Vice President for Grievance and Dispute Resolution. Any members in good standing in regional offices may seek and vote for the Vice President for Field Operations.  If at least two candidates file for one of the offices, we will hold an election.   If three or more candidates file for one office, instant run-off voting will be used to determine the winner.

The election schedule is as follows:

  • October 1-7  Nominations accepted.
  • October 8-14 Campaign period
  • October 15-21 Voting
  • October 23 Results announced
Prospective candidates should submit a nominating statement of no more than 500 words to Pat Bohan during the nomination period.  At end of each day during the nomination period, our webmaster will update the list of candidates who have filed on GAOanalysts.org.

Any self-nominations or nominating statements submitted outside the nomination window will not be accepted.  Candidates and their supporters should also familiarize themselves with the Union's campaign rules.

FMA Staffing Process Revision Completed

Our Union, the GAO Employees Organization (IFPTE Local 1921), and the Financial Management and Assurance (FMA) team have agreed on a revised process for staffing FMA engagements. The new process includes changes made as a result of suggestions from FMA bargaining unit members during a comment period earlier this year. Comments primarily addressed maximizing professional development opportunities for staff and improving transparency of staffing decisions.

The process is intended to help FMA make better use of staff time and skills, increase opportunities for professional development, and bolster staff retention while meeting the needs of FMA in support of the Congress and GAO’s strategic plan. It is intended to: (1) link job needs to staff preferences and development; (2) standardize how and when staffing decisions are made; (3) allow staff to communicate their preferences; and (4) increase the transparency of the decisions. With the new process to be up and running soon, FMA will periodically provide data about the results and will consider ways to report results by Band (I, IIA, IIB).

Questions? Contact FMA’s assembly rep, Arkelga Braxton, who will be working with FMA management on any implementation issues: 202-512-8143.
