CRS employees have been represented by a union local for 27 years---Local 75 of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE). IFPTE is, in turn, a member of the AFL-CIO. As our sister agency has done, we are seeking to set up another local of the IFPTE at GAO. |

The CRS IFPTE local represents all 700 eligible employees from GS-3s to GS-16s. (For more info, see the Congressional Researchers Employees Association web site. Because they have a union, they have a collective bargaining agreement with their management. |

The IFPTE has one of the least expensive dues structures of all major union. We will decide our dues structure so long as we charge the minimum dues of $9.00 per month. This is less than half as much as the next least costly union. These dues help pay for high powered legal and legislative representation, as well as standard union benefits, such as discounts on insurance and other similar programs. |

The IFPTE governing structure ensures autonomy, democratic decision-making, and self-governance to affiliated organizations. IFPTE offers professional staff assistance, technical resources, and coordination among IFPTE-represented employee groups. |
